Lemon pie & girl talk

I love sitting outdoors at this cafe... the huge plant is always a wonder to behold.

Delicious sour lemon pie with a buttery crust.

Feeling happy cos Monday blues have been annihilated with the public holiday tomorrow!
See you soon x

Pick-me-up

One way to escape the crowds on a Saturday, especially at my fave cafe, is to wake up extra early for breakfast.

Good coffee & banana pancakes
Hope you have a lovely weekend x

Good solid ground

A great afternoon tea today with my gfs... cant believe I've never been to PS cafe in Ann Siang Hill.. Quiet and bursting with the usual bouquets, it was a quiet respite from the city bustle around the Amoy Street food center area, where one of them works.

These days I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
Relief & gratitude.

Favorite cafe in Siem Reap

Just next door to my hotel, I discovered a little gem of a cafe, the Upstairs Cafe.

Opened by a french lady, its sunny countryside interiors, coupled with free wifi, really good coffee and cakes, have made it very successful among the local & expat community.

Sarah, the owner, came to Siem Reap, fell in love with a Japanese man, & decided to leave her hometown of Strasbourg to come & set up a cafe here.

Listening to her stories was humbling & gratifying: how many of us join the corporate rat race, each wanting to climb higher, go faster, earn more... But her goal was to employ & train Cambodian women, while giving people a nice place to relax in.

Needless to say, I skipped the average hotel breakfast everyday & hopped over to the cafe for good Illy coffee, fluffy omelettes & freshly toasted bread! It was heaven.

Besides all-day breakfast, she also bakes really good cakes - the chocolate fondant cake with english cream and lemon sponge cake were the two cakes I tried over & over again.

Maison Ikkoku

A languid saturday spent reading & among friends at a lovely cafe Maison Ikkoku - great coffee & this Spam Musubi snack, a slice of luncheon meat with seasoned japanese rice!
Blogging direct from my phone is not that difficult after all :)
Enjoy the weekend!

L'Etoile café

My friend brought me to this new cafe near his office which totally captured my heart with its japanese & french influences. We chatted a while to the owner & she was so sweet. I love how alot of indie cafes are opening up around Singapore, & most of their owners, like this one, were previously doing something totally different.

My perfect cup of latte.

Have a good weekend, wherever you are xx

PS café

Dempsey Hill is a favorite hangout for my friends & me, from hen nights at the White Rabbit to brunch at Barracks Cafe to late-night coffees at Dome, it's safe to say this area remains high on our list of hangout places.

But PS Cafe is like the grande dame to me... It has been around for as long as I can remember in Dempsey Hill, & one of our old favorites. Where you can always fall back on when you run out of dining ideas in Singapore, or a last-minute dinner venue for a date.

I love sitting outdoors on cool nights, lush greenery around me yet being so close to town.

The decor inside, similar to the one at Palais Renaissance downtown, always makes me feel like i'm no longer in the city.

If you live here or are ever in Singapore, do stop by here or the one in town for a dose of green & their famous desserts! I personally love their truffle fries, the nihon salad & the egg-white omelette at Palais, fluffy & easy on the cholesterol! xx

Brunch at Jones

Saturday brunch at Jones the Grocer.

I love going to the Dempsey area in Singapore... Though it's often crowded, I still like the laid-back vibes there & the natural settings.

My friend & I love counter seats... we are always seated faster & no one disturbs us! Plus at the Jones counter, you get to see what they put exactly into your drinks.

The Eggs Benedict at Jones was yummy, but the coffee was even better. Or perhaps i was just sleepy; the first coffee of the day always tastes good to me :P

We stayed well into the afternoon just chatting over coffees & enjoying a lazy Saturday.

I love how the cafe culture in Singapore is becoming very strong, it's really something I appreciate alot about this city.

Kickin back

On Thursdays, when most of Paris' departmental stores close late, I like to go to Déli-cieux on the top floor of the Printemps store... it's a laid-back self-service café with great music & an unbeatable view of Paris.

Yesterday however, we chose to kick back & sit on the grass instead :) We talked, laughed, listened to music & ate cookies & chocolate. What a beautiful day xx

Monday brunch

Today I discovered Eggs & Co, a 5-year-old cheerful restaurant in Saint Germain-des-Près which serves all-day brunch everyday.

It's difficult to find a good brunch place in Paris during the week... especially somewhere authentic & not too touristy.

Their décor is too cute... hens in a barn just behind me :)

The food is the star of this eatery... Eggs in any form you can imagine - poached, scrambled, omelettes, Benedicte, Norwegian, etc; I took the Eggs Benedict brunch menu which comes with fresh orange juice, coffee & oven roasted potatoes with salad.

And when u think u can't eat anymore, the brunch finishes with a pancake & a fruit salad.

One of the best brunches i ever had in Paris.. And their coffee is delicious. I can't wait to go back again!

encore merci

Always a haven of books & coffee... & surely the best service in Paris.. I find myself back here again & again.

April 5, 2012

time out

When I feel I need to take a step back..

Away from prying eyes & ears...

away from the cares of the world.

Just me, a cup of coffee & a book.

I'm reading Life of Pi for the third time, really love it.

Le café du Petit Palais

Paris' best kept secret...

The cafe in the Petit Palais museum, overlooking its garden...

With the cherry blossoms in full bloom against the gilded opulence... it was East meets West at its best.

We spent the whole afternoon over coffees & cakes, talking about life & taking in the beauty around this museum which is often overlooked compared to the Grand Palais. Few people know that its permanent collections are free & they have Monet & Gauguin paintings too.
Next week's lunch date? At the MINI Palais :)
Sunset over the Seine. Always beautiful x

cold days, warm pleasures..

oui le plaisir est un luxe..

merci5

Merci is always welcoming.... Berthie who is the cafe manager always has a welcoming smile for me... she always makes sure u get the best table possible. It's really one of the best cafes in Paris... & where i never get tired of hanging out, either alone or sharing it with friends who don't know it yet.

merci

merci7

It's a luxury to be amongst so many books... thousands of them.

merci6

I seriously could hang out here everyday... Actually i've sat at every single table they have... & still cant decide which is my favorite. But the thing i always order is their half-boiled eggs with toast & butter.... a great meal to share with friends or to indulge in alone sometimes!

merci8

And filled with inspiration for home decor & clothes... The boutique is a fashionista's heaven.

merci2

And we saw this little picture on the road on the way home... what a perfect funny way to end the weekend!

merci4

My french prof also calls him "Le Petit Nicolas"... i find it endearing xx
