The weekend in HK was super super super. I met up with Jerome, my dear old friend. even though we always email or sms, we havent seen each other for ages! The last time i was in hk, he was back in france, then he came to singapore to visit and i was in sydney. So this time was really a sweet reunion for us. He kept the weekend free & me, i gave up shopping this time!
First up, he attempts to cook for me and also show me his new plc... the last time i came, he was still stayin at causeway bay but now has moved to an apartment with a great view.. check it out!
And I go to watch him at his rugby match.. his emails are always peppered with rugby matches... first time i see him play!
But poor Thomas dislocates his finger... for once we cant think of anything reassuring to say cos it really looks pretty bad. Hes hustled off to the hospital for an operation.
Instead of accompanyin him, we decide to make the most of our time & head to Soho instead haha. I love the area.. so laidback & little streets crammed with boutiques & bars... i definitely prefer it to LKF!
Dinner at a nice Italian restaurant... & lots of catching up to do.. now that he's shaved his head, he's practically a gay magnet! Everywhere we go, guys swivel to look at him hee.
But he's still one of the nicest & sweetest guys i know. I just found this old pic of us circa 2003! We were on the ferry to Lantau Island & he thinks it's funny to stick his finger in my ear.
It really makes me laugh to compare us then & now. How we have changed!
The next day is petanque day. We head to his friend's plc at Lamma Island for a game of petanque.. i don't agree that it's a game played only by old french men... i love it!
Lamma island is home to many HKers who want to escape from the urban jungle. Here, u have lotsa nature & time passes so slowly. But at 40mins away by ferry, i think it's a tad far.
It's serious business as distances between balls & the cochonette are measured with precision & lengthy discussions take place.
He gives me a few quick lessons and i score a couple of beautiful shots. Of course he's quick to say i've got a good teacher but i'm inclined to think i'm maybe perhaps a little gifted?:D
Dusk falls as we continue to play... amidst the evening light, we reminisce on how our friendship has come a long long way. Our lives have changed so much over the years but he's still the good ol' jerome i know... always there for me when i need him, always taking care of his friends. That, to me, is the mark of true friendship :)
