Today i am especially in awe of our beautiful world.
Did you know that somewhere in the Indian Ocean, between Somalia in Africa & Yemen, lies a magical island archipaelogo called Socotra? It is often called the most fascinating place on Earth, as well as the most alien-looking.
The coast of Socotra.
Because of its isolation (it separated from the African continent about 6 million years ago), one-third of its plant life is endemic to the island.
The dragon's blood tree.
the Desert rose, also called elephant's leg.
Highest point of the island at 1700m, Haggier Mountains.
Houses. I feel like Inception took its idea from here! Socotra was recently listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which put pressure on the Yemeni government to build roads on the island. Imagine!
This place doesnt even look like it belongs on earth... which is what makes it so amazing.
