wanderlust...

Wanderlust.

(Beware... this post might make u quit yr job and be a backpacker.)

1. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia.

Top of my list: Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world. 40 000 yrs ago, it was once part of a gigantic prehistoric lake but has since dried, leaving behind this desert of salt which stretches for as far as the eye can see.

Bolivian miners harvest the salt in piles, working from morning to evening.

When it rains, a perfect mirror is formed, reflecting the sky in one of nature's most beautiful paintings. There, u can also see colored lakes, flamingos, geysers, islands and rock formations.

U know what... i'm so jealous of all these travellers' photos!!!!!!

2. Patagonia

Patagonia to me, is the closest i will ever get to no man's land. It is situated at the southernmost tip of South America and often referred to as the end of the earth. The landscape is harsh with mountains and glaciers. I once read in a magazine that standing in Torres del Paine, u could well be the first person who has ever stood there.

I'm really hit by wanderlust... :(
Though there are tentative plans to make our way to South America next year, they are not firm yet. There's always that niggling thing called work that cant just be put aside. But there's something so young and free in just carrying all yr belongings on yr back and stepping on foreign soil, marvelling at the wonders of nature.

3. Iceland

For the magnificent landscapes and the whole scandinavian experience

4. Hawaii

For the volcanoes and the culture plus the fact that i can learn hula dance there. There's also no other place like Hawaii, no matter how commercialised it's become.

5. Hokkaido

I love Japan and lavender ice-cream and crab. Plus this great northern land allows us to see the famous aurora borealis without having to go to europe!

6. Croatia

Wanted to go there since i was 21. Think it's one of the most beautiful places in Europe, with its walled city, medieval charm and emerald sea.

Thats all i can think of at the moment... who knows, i might read yet another travel mag and fall in love again... but i promise myself i must see these places before i say goodbye to the world.

The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is atlast to set foot on one's own country as a foreign land.  ~G.K.Chesterton

home away from home

Thanks to my job, i've stayed in some of the best hotels around the world (I will neva pay so much on my own trips)... Imposing grand lobbies with huge chandeliers, toiletries ranging from L'Occitane to crabtree & evelyn to Molton brown, plush rooms with LCD TVs, great discounts for guest services... one even offers a range of pillows tailored to yr needs, just call & they deliver.

but the Sheraton Grand at Shanghai steals my heart with 2 rubber duckies in the bathtub :)

You get numb to luxury after a while... Sometimes it's the little things that put a smile on my face :)

a moment

I can visit the most interesting places or see the most beautiful landscapes but moments like this still take your breath away.

la melancolie

"La melancolie... c'est le bonheur d'etre triste." - Victor Hugo

Melancholy is the happiness in being sad... Just found this quote so beautiful.

I am surprised to see so many messages.... Haven't been updating for a while i know. I feel alot of things when i visit a certain place... but it's not always easy to pen it down and have people understand what u're trying to bring across.

Then there are times when i'm simply too lazy to tote my cam around... i may not have captured all that i've seen on film but everything that i come into contact with moulds me, affects me, stays with me forever.
